🌿 Andy Tilp, CFP® — Founder and President

I founded Trillium Valley Financial Planning in 2009 to offer clear, objective financial guidance without product sales, commissions, or asset‑based fees. My goal has always been simple: to provide steady, non‑judgmental support that helps people make confident financial decisions.

I’m a fee‑only, advice‑only fiduciary based in Sherwood, Oregon, serving people from many backgrounds and life paths.

🌱 A Background Rooted in Service, Curiosity, and Problem‑Solving

My path to financial planning has been shaped by a lifelong interest in helping people navigate complex decisions.

Before becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, I served four years in the U.S. Air Force, lived abroad, and earned a BS in Electrical Engineering, followed by an MS in Computer Science. I carried that analytical mindset into a high‑tech career that included founding a software company, working in a high‑growth startup, and managing large‑scale projects in established technology firms.

These experiences taught me how to break down complicated problems, communicate clearly, and support people through important decisions — skills that now shape my work with clients.

🌸 Teaching and Expanding Access to Financial Education

In addition to my work with clients, I teach Personal Finance as an adjunct professor at Portland State University. I also teach financial planning through PSU’s Higher Education in Prison Program, supporting incarcerated students as they work toward college degrees. This work reflects my belief that financial education should be accessible to people from many backgrounds and circumstances, including those who have historically been excluded from traditional financial systems.

Helping learners build a strong foundation — whether they are young adults, returning students, or individuals pursuing education while incarcerated — is one of the most meaningful parts of my professional life.

🌼 Life on the Farm & Understanding Real‑World Financial Challenges

My wife, Janet, and I live on a small farm outside Sherwood, where we raise Pygora goats and support local 4H programs. As parents of grown children, we understand firsthand the financial realities families face — from budgeting and saving to navigating the cost of higher education.

These experiences keep my work grounded in the real world. Every family has its own story, and every financial plan should reflect that.

🌟 My Approach to Financial Planning

My role is to listen carefully, understand your full financial picture, and offer clear, objective recommendations that support your next steps. I believe good planning is:

• accessible
• transparent
• free from sales agendas
• grounded in your goals
• supportive of your unique circumstances

Whether your goals are two years away or thirty, I’m here to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
